- Your currency will convert into Turkish Lira using the exchange office’s buy rate.
- The Turkish Lira is then converted into the new currency using the sell rate of that currency.
For example:
If you want to convert US Dollars to Euros:
- Your US Dollar is first converted to Turkish Lira using the USD buy rate.
- Then the Turkish Lira amount is converted to Euro using the EUR sell rate.
Because of this two-step conversion, the final result may look different from the cross rates shown on global rate websites like Xe.com.
Buy and Sell Rates Explained
Exchange offices in North Cyprus use two different prices for each currency:
- Buy Rate – the rate at which the exchange office buys foreign currency from you.
- Sell Rate – the rate at which the exchange office sells foreign currency to you.
This difference between buy and sell rates is how exchanges cover operational costs and market fluctuations.

Websites like XE usually display mid-market rates, which represent theoretical averages that international banks and financial markets mainly use.
